Black Swan Care Group acquires Suffolk care home

Black Swan Care Group has acquired All Hallows Care Home in Bungay, Suffolk, marking a major strategic investment in local care provision.
Under new ownership, the home will be fully renovated and re-registered as a 42-bedroom care home, with enlarged bedrooms featuring ensuite wetrooms, designed to support people requiring short-term care and longer-term support, including people living with dementia.
The home has a long local history and was originally part of the All Hallows Healthcare Trust, before NorseCare bought it in April 2019.
Subsequently, the permanent closure of the home was announced in October 2023 and it has remained closed since then.
The investment by Black Swan means the care home will become the group’s second care facility in Suffolk and brings the total number of homes in the group to 24.
The existing building and infrastructure require substantial refurbishment. This will include enlarging most of the bedrooms at the home to include ensuite WCs and wetrooms, making them fit for purpose in the 21st Century.
Work on these changes will start imminently, with the aim of reopening the home in the autumn of 2026, subject to formal registration by the Care Quality Commission.
Key features of the new home:
- 42 modern bedrooms, fitted with ensuite WCs and showers to provide accessible, safe and comfortable facilities
- Dedicated areas for residential and dementia care, enabling person-centred support and environments for residents
- Recruitment of over 50 staff and managers across caring, catering, domestic, maintenance and management roles
- Extensive renovations to upgrade the building, including plumbing, electrical, interior finishes, safety systems, and communal facilities
- Careful design planning to ensure the facility is futureproofed, dementia friendly, and aligned with best practices in care standards
Tom Lyons, managing director of Black Swan Care Group, said: “We are extremely pleased to share this exciting news about the purchase of All Hallows Care Home.
“Our goal is to create a special care home that combines high-quality residential care in a warm, homely environment.
“Our closest care home in Beccles, just five miles away, has been operating at full capacity with a waiting list, so we know that there is a really high demand for high-quality residential care in the local area for older people, including those living with dementia.
“The home needs significant renovation and refurbishment in order for it to be suitable for supporting people’s care needs in the 21st Century and we will start work quickly, aiming to open the home in the autumn of 2026.”
Black Swan Care Group provides short-term care, respite care and longer-term support in residential care homes across East Anglia, supporting older people including those living with dementia.
There are also homes supporting younger adults with learning and physical disabilities including autism.
The company employs nearly 1,000 staff and all of the group’s care homes are rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.
