New hands-on owner for health centre pharmacy
Windermere Health Centre Pharmacy in Cumbria has been sold to first-time buyer, Ali Awais.
The business is an independent community pharmacy located within a health centre situated just off Lake Road – the main road that links the two town centres of Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere.
It dispenses an average of 4,250 prescription items per month to local residents and tourists who visit this popular area of the Lake District and is primarily run by two regular locum pharmacists.
The pharmacy has been owned by David Carter for 18-years and was recently brought to market to allow him to retire.
Following a confidential sales process with Karl Clezy at Christie & Co, and with funding sourced through Lizi Bates at Christie Finance, it has been purchased by Awais, who plans to run the pharmacy full-time on a hands-on basis, and introduce more additional services that will benefit the health and wellbeing of patients.
Awais said: “I’m excited to have taken over Windermere Health Centre Pharmacy and to lead its transformation into a modern, service-driven pharmacy that truly meets the needs of the local community.
“Prior to the takeover, the pharmacy offered limited services, but we’ve already made significant progress by introducing contraception services, free blood pressure checks, Pharmacy First, and free delivery for all our customers.
“This is just the beginning. We plan to expand further with private services such as a travel clinic and weight loss management support.”
Clezy added: “Finding a buyer was more of a challenge for this pharmacy due to its remote location and lower dispensing numbers.
“Another factor buyers had to consider was the high property prices in this popular area of the Lake District.
“I am confident the new owner running the pharmacy himself will start to build a successful business by offering new additional Services that will enhance patient care.”
Windermere Health Centre Pharmacy was sold for an undisclosed price.
