Tilbury Douglas has held a topping-out ceremony marking a key milestone in the construction of the Catterick Integrated Care Campus.

The event was celebrated with a special ceremony that brought together representatives from The Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), Tilbury Douglas, Vivo, UK Strategic Command (UKSC), the NHS, and AECOM.

The topping-out ceremony, a time-honoured tradition in the construction industry, involved the project team gathering to sign the steel beam that will form the roof of the new facility.

This symbolic act underscores the collaborative effort of all partners involved in the project and signifies the nearing of completion of the building’s structural framework.

The Catterick Integrated Care Campus is a first-of-its-kind integration between the MOD and NHS and will deliver transformative integrated health and care services to the military and civilian communities.

The collaboration will enable shared facilities, expertise, and learning to optimise the health and care services for people across Catterick, North Yorkshire and the wider Richmondshire areas.

The facility will include modern health and care services, significantly enhancing the quality of care available in the region.

Speaking at the event, Paul Ellenor, regional director for the North East at Tilbury Douglas, said: “The topping-out ceremony is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this project.

The development is due for completion in Spring 2026

“This milestone brings us one step closer to delivering a world-class healthcare facility that will serve the needs of both the military and the local community for years to come.”

David Salmond, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation’s major projects and programmes lead for UK Strategic Command, added: “We’re pleased to reach this significant construction milestone for this groundbreaking new facility.

“The success of the project to date is thanks to the working relationships built between the MOD, NHS, AECOM and Tilbury Douglas, and we look forward to those relationships continuing to bear fruit as we focus on the next stage of construction.”

Catterick Integrated Care Campus is expected to be handed over in Spring 2026 and will be operational by Autumn 2026.
