New owner for established learning disabilities care home in Exeter

Regents Park T/A The Lodge specialist care home in Exeter has been sold to specialist care provider, Potens.

The home cares for up to seven residents with learning disabilities and occupies a 19th-century property that sits in a prominent, convenient location.

It has been owned and operated by Simon and Larrainne Thorne of Regent’s Park Company for 25 years.

The group comprised a number of care homes and supported living businesses, and a domiciliary care agency, which the couple has gradually sold in preparation for their retirement.

This was their final care home business.

Following a confidential sales process with Simon Harvey at Christie & Co, the home has been sold to specialist care provider, Potens, which has vast experience of operating similar homes.

Larrainne said: “We had a number of interested parties, however Potens stood out – valuing the same ethos as we had, being specialist providers, and having vast experience in running similar services.”

John Farragher, executive chairman at Potens, adds: “Potens is very pleased to complete on this service in the beautiful city of Exeter.

“We hope to build on the great efforts of Simon and Lorraine over the past years while welcoming residents and staff into the wider Potens community.”

Harvey said specialist homes, in large urban settings, in particular, are highly sought after.

He added: “Exeter is considered a regional centre and a strategic location.

“Recognising the potential in this well-run and highly-regarded home, Potens saw the opportunity to further extend their presence in the South West.

“This sale, along with numerous ongoing deals and a record year in 2024 for care transactions, demonstrates the strength of appetite for a wide range of care businesses across the region.”

Regents Park T/A The Lodge was sold for an undisclosed price.
