Outline planning application submitted for 84-bed care home in Somerset

  • 19th June 2025

Muller Property Group has submitted an outline planning application to Bath & North East Somerset Council for a new 84-bed care home in Paulton, Somerset.

The proposed development, in Hallatrow Road, is designed to meet a growing demand for high-quality, ensuite care accommodation, with a particular focus on end-of-life and dementia care.

Strategically situated between Bristol and Bath, the site offers excellent transport links and accessibility.

The proposed care home is intended to be a modern, purpose-built facility delivering compassionate care in a thoughtfully-designed environment that blends with the surrounding landscape.

The care home proposals will provide:

  • 84 spacious, fully ensuite bedrooms
  • Secure landscaped gardens
  • A café bistro, cinema, library, games room, and hair and nail salon
  • Day rooms, quiet lounges, and private family dining areas
  • Staff offices and support facilities on each floor

In addition to improving the standard of care accommodation in the area, the development also aims to:

  • Help address NHS bed-blocking by enabling more-timely hospital discharges
  • Reduce pressure on existing facilities through the introduction of modern, fit-for-purpose care provision
  • Support the local housing market by helping to free up under-occupied family homes
  • Generate new long-term employment opportunities both during construction and in ongoing operations

The site design respects the area’s natural character, with most mature trees retained and new planting introduced to enhance the site’s biodiversity.

Access will be directly from Hallatrow Road (B3355), with 26 dedicated parking spaces for visitors and staff.

The planning application will now be considered by Bath & North East Somerset Council, with determination expected later this year.
