Property lease expiry prompts merger of GP surgeries

  • 24th April 2024

NHS South West London has approved a business case for the merger of Carshalton Fields Surgery and Wallington Family Practice after the former’s property lease expired, leaving GPs without a building from which to deliver services.

Under the lease agreement the practice held, NHS South West London had no legal route to challenge the sale of the building by the property owner.

And Carshalton Fields Surgery in Crichton Road will now close on Friday 28 June.

After this date patients will automatically be registered at Wallington Family Practice and their medical records will transfer on 1 July.

According to NHS South West London, the move will bring a range of benefits for patients at both Carshalton Fields Surgery and Wallington Family Practice, including:

  • Jubilee Health Centre is a purpose-built health centre offering significantly-improved premises for Carshalton Fields patients
  • Carshalton Fields Surgery patients will also benefit from a greater range of services, clinical staff, and local services that operate at Jubilee Health Centre, including radiography, musculoskeletal health (MSK), and phlebotomy
  • All the staff and clinicians at Carshalton Fields Surgery will be retained and transferred to Wallington Family Practice – this will bolster the service Wallington Family Practice is able to provide
